Zammuto (of The Books) Announce New Album, Stream “Hegemony”

Not a week goes by where I don’t get sad knowing The Books are no longer around. But then, almost immediately following that thought, I remember we have Zammuto and thank the musical stars above. Started by Nick Zammuto of The Books shortly after the band called it quits in 2012, Zammuto stays in line with The Books’ found sound electronic style but replaces the cello with plenty of luxurious harmonies and shaky guitar lines. On September 2, Zammuto will be releasing his sophomore solo album, Anchor, via Temporary Residence.

Our first taste of the album comes in the form of the glitchy, winking single “Great Equator,” and today we get a taste of the more playful “Hegemony.” The latter toys with salsa and disco while roping in handfuls of drums and silky vocal samples. Zammuto once again manages to keep things warm but detached, a sensation few musicians know how to master. Give “Hegemony” a listen over at NPR, and check out “Great Equator” and the album’s full tracklist below:
