Let’s take a depressing, cold and edgy Canadian singer-songwriter and then we’ll have him cover a gloomy track by Tears for Fears. Sounds fun, right?
Well, City and Colour have done just that. And it’s a morning maker.
Dallas Green has made a soft, beautiful piano rendition of the Tears for Fears song “Suffer the Children.” It’s a perfect example of how an artist can take a classic track, give it his treatment, but you still know exactly what song it is. Unlike the original, it never really takes off, but it just continually haunts you through the whole track. There are no synths or drums, but it is still heavy. The mixing of the chorus accompaniment at the end, which appears to be multiple pitches of his voice, is simply perfect.
