Watch Counting Crows’ New “God of Ocean Tides” Lyric Video

When you’ve been a band as long as Counting Crows have, you have to evolve. In the last few years, the Crows have tried on some new hats, releasing a half country, half rock album called Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings in 2008 and their most recent, 2012’s cover album Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation). Today they released the video for “God of Ocean Tides,” a haunting bit of finger-picked melancholia that returns to the sound of August and Everything After, except that Adam Duritz maintains a hint of a country twang.

“God of Ocean Tides” is the third single off their forthcoming seventh studio album, Somewhere Under Wonderland, set to drop on September 2. The band is keeping up the hype for the album with an international tour (accompanied by Toad the Wet Sprocket) and a mini-tour of artwork reveals in major US cities along the way. Each song on the album has original artwork done by Felipe Melina that will be recreated in chalk by 3D chalk artist Chris Carlson. The art for the first single, “Palisades Park,” was revealed in Denver. No chalk art yet for “God of Ocean Tides,” but the lyric video for the track is pretty cool. Check out the video below as well as the track listing for Somewhere Under Wonderland.
