First Lorde, now Arcade Fire. Flume has been making his way through indie hits and giving them new life. Not that they needed it, but Flume’s remixes are not to be missed. With Lorde‘s “Tennis Court,” Flume didn’t just add new beats over the existing New Zealand star’s song. He deconstructed the tune (which is very pop, as far as Lorde goes) and built up something entirely new that’s both more electric and ethereal sounding.
Flume gives the same treatment to “Afterlife” from Arcade Fire’s most recent, critically acclaimed album Reflektor. He strips away the instrumentation, leaving only an “oohing” that serves as a faint backbone to the original. From there he layers vocal samples and light dance beats for a cool, but subdued remix.
