Pussy Riot Will Appear on ‘House of Cards’

According to Baltimore’s City Paper, Pussy Riot members Nadya Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina will be appearing on season three of House of Cards. It’s unclear how big of a role they will play in the TV show or if they are even representing themselves onscreen. Production team members have confirmed, however, that the two were on set last week to film.

Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina are perhaps the most prominent members of the Russian activist punk group. When giving a speech at Lincoln Center in New York back in May, Pussy Riot also took the time to meet with the House of Cards production team. Back then, their main interest wasn’t in having a cameo, but rather making a movie. “We want to learn how to do a political movie,” Tolokonnikova said. “This is our main agenda right now.”

Until then, they will continue fighting their seemingly never-ending battles with plenty of supporters in the US on their side. They were recently awarded the Hannah Arendt Prize For Political Thought and continue to sue their government for numerous violations of human rights.
