Unsigned rappers are thirsty fools, and every so often one of them decides to do something so ridiculous it demands our attention, if only to prevent others from doing the same stupid thing.
A relatively unknown rapper by the name of Erik Battle was given a copy an unfinished copy of Drake‘s latest, unreleased single in recent weeks. Instead of keeping the track to himself, like any intelligent person would do, Erik decided to record his own verse and add it to the track. To make matters worse, he then uploaded the track to the internet without permission from Drake, OVO, or anyone associated with the biggest entertainer in pop music today.
“Views From The 6,” remixed by Erik Battle, hit the internet yesterday afternoon. It took only a few minutes for the track’s release to be brought to the attention of Drake’s people, and they immediately descended on Audiomack, Soundcloud, and the like to try and scrub the track from the net. Their attempts were unsuccessful, of course, but they did put a large dent in Battle’s plans to gain exposure from shitty business practices. Drizzy has yet to comment on the matter himself, but you can view tweets from a few of Drake’s cohorts regarding the leak at the end of this post.
It is believed that “Views From The 6” will be the title track off Drake’s new studio album, which is tentatively scheduled for release in spring 2015. The Canadian born rapper has made no announcements regarding when singles from the record will be released, so it’s unclear at this time when an official version of “Views From The 6” will surface. For now, or at least until big brother destroys our link, you can stream Battle’s leaked remix below.

“The biggest entertainer in pop music today.”
Ugh, I wouldn’t go THAT far
This article makes Drake out to be the best thing to ever happen to todays music scene.
I don’t think it’s really that big of a stretch. Drake has had at least two #1 songs a year, every year, for five years running. Add to that his multi-platinum albums and sold out tours, not to mention continually delivering high quality material both on and off albums. Every major rapper in music today, with the exception of Gambino and Chance, have turned to Drake in order to bolster more attention for their projects.
Let’s also not forget the fact other rappers compare themselves to Drake, and he’s often the target of attack raps from up and comers around the globe. He’s viewed as an international trendsetter, and that’s not me talking – it’s New York Times, Forbes, and a dozen other mainstream publications. You might not like what he does all the time, but his branding and marketing efforts have insured continued success for many years to come.
I almost wish I could feel as strongly about him as everyone else does (apparently). I’ve never enjoyed anything I’ve heard from him. I honestly don’t get why he’s so popular.
The scope of ‘pop music’ is so wide, though. I feel like I definitely see more headlines and raving about artists like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kanye, etc. Maybe I just block out Drake-related material.
