‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Scoops Up Yet Another Box Office Win

This is the fourth time in the past six weeks that we’ve referenced Guardians of the Galaxy in the headline of these box office weekend posts, and that’s all for a good reason; the film still continues to crush in an incredibly stale time of the year. An estimated $10 million had been earned by the Marvel Studios film, thus raising its domestic totals to $294.5 million, beating out Man of Steel’s domestic pull that it had earned in the summer of 2013.

On the topic of family centric action films, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is currently posted on the second slot of this week’s top ten for its continued performance. This week, the film has made about $6.5 million.

The only newcomer in terms of wide-releases would be Freestyle’s The Identical, which sadly enough, didn’t make the charts thanks to its $1.9 million weekend pull. Rotten Tomatoes has given the drama a rather unforgiving 4% rating, which is the lowest rating I’ve ever personally seen on the site.

Unless you haven’t seen Guardians (which we strongly suggest that you do), you might just be better off staying in and maybe seeing a VOD film this evening. Check out our review of Frontera or The Possession of Michael King if you’re looking for some recommendations. As always, our top ten list of this weekend’s highest grossing films can be found following the jump.
