“Movie” Is Your Last Chance To Hop On The Hoodie Allen Bandwagon Before He’s Everywhere

Hoodie Allen has been poised for international superstardom as long as I can remember. Okay, that’s kind of a lie, but it does feel like several years have passed since Hoodie reached a point where he was on par, if not better than everyone making millions in hip-hop. This fall may be his time, however, and this week we received a new track that is sure to become your next obsession.

“Movie” is as close to a love song as Hoodie Allen knows how to create. The hook invites ladies to be Hoodie’s leading lady in the movie of his life, and for what it’s worth I’ve been told by multiple women it’s good enough to make their knees weak. As a guy, Hoodie doesn’t have quite the same effect on me when he croons, but as soon as the verses kick in he spits metaphors and rhymes that might leave your head spinning. There’s references to numerous classic films, as well as talk on the life he plans to give the woman of his dreams that might as well serve as the third act in someone’s upcoming romantic dramedy.

The video for “Movies” takes the title rather seriously, placing Hoodie and his leading lady in a number of scenes and settings that bring to mind the golden age of cinema. There’s a classic car and green screen combo, noir office space, JJ Abrams lens flares, Wes Anderson awkwardness, and a pitch perfect Shining reference that left this writer in stitches. You can view the video below:

We have been following Hoodie for a number of years now, but it’s clear “Movie” is a brand new ballgame. Hoodie has always been on to challenge himself to grown in new and creative ways with each release, and this single is all I need to hear to know that what awaits on his upcoming album will be game-changing. That record, which is titled People Keep Talking, hits stores October 14.
