Matthew McConaughey Will Not Appear In ‘Magic Mike’ Sequel

Attention all you law breakers, the sheriff of Xquisite has left the building.

In a new interview with The Playlist, director Greg Jacobs revealed that Matthew McConaughey will not be appearing in the highly anticipated sequel to Magic Mike. The actor, who originally portrayed Xquisite owner Dallas, does not fit into the plot of the new film. That said, co-stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello are confirmed to return.

Jacobs also used his time spent with The Playlist to reveal a few plot details regarding the upcoming film, which has been given the hilarious title of Magic Mike XXL. “It’s a road trip movie,” Jacobs tells the digital outlet, “and put it this way, it’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice.”

It’s likely Magic Mike XXL will also recruit a slew of new co-stars with recognizable backgrounds, but Jacobs told The Playlist the negotiations with new talent are still ongoing. Production is currently underway however, so there should be additional details regarding the cast and plot in the coming weeks.

Co-written by Reid Carolin and Channing Tatum, Magic Mike XXL opens July 1, 2015.
