Today In WTF News: Will ‘Deadpool’ Be PG-13?

Coming hot off the heels of the recent announcement that the film adaptation of the popular comic book character, Deadpool, is becoming a reality; some disappointing news has come. On a recent episode of the popular podcast, Schmoes Know, host Mark Reilly has come out about the chance that director Tim Miller’s new movie about the merc with a mouth could be PG-13. Here’s what Reilly said about the matter:

I heard from the director that they finally figured out the script, and it was right before this was announced, that they figured out, and you guys are all gonna hate this, they figured out how to make it PG-13. And therefore “not lose its soul,” and that’s a quote, of the script so that they can make it.”

For those who know the source material, Deadpool is a vulgar character where his expletive-laden sarcasm is part of his charm. Along with the gratuitous violence, of course. I don’t see any way that this movie could be made PG-13 but only time will tell. What we do know now is that Rob Liefeld, the creator of the comic line, is close to the production. Here’s to hoping that this story has no validity and Deadpool will in fact be rated R. Deadpool is slated for release on February 12, 2016 and stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular, red face-masked antagonist.
