Denzel Washington’s been on a roll with his recent work, and The Equalizer‘s commercial success serves as a testament to that. According to estimates from Sony-Columbia pictures, the action-thriller is set to make $35 million dollars by the end of its debut weekend.
The Boxtrolls came into theaters as well, and opened with around $17 million. Coming from a small studio like Laika, who have only managed to squeeze out smaller weekend debuts with Coraline ($16.8 million) and ParaNorman ($14.1 million), that’s quite the achievement.
