Watch Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar’s “Never Catch Me” Video

On October 7, Flying Lotus drops his newest album, You’re Dead!, via Warp Records. It’s a 19-track effort that features collaborations with Herbie Hancock, ex-Dirty Projectors’ Angel Deradoorian, Snoop Dogg, Thundercat, and FlyLo’s hip-hop alter-ego, Captain Murphy. A few others, like Pharrell, turned down guest spots for fear of the album’s heavy content. With the first music video in our hands, it makes sense why.

In his new video for “Never Catch Me,” Flying Lotus sees his single play alongside a clip of two children at their own funeral. The Kendrick Lamar collaboration gets grim, despite being incredibly beautiful (although the two are often one in the same). Directed by Hiro Murai, the children climb out of their coffins, dance in the middle of church, and break out to run away. Soulful church clapping pairs well with the song’s jazz rhythm section and Flying Lotus’ impeccable smoothness to make it a classy take. Check it out below:
