UTG PHOTOS: Bassnectar At Madison Square Garden (10/4/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer Derek Scancarelli to Madison Square Garden in New York City to photograph Bassnectar on October 4, 2014.

Ahhhh, The Garden. The internationally renowned arena over New York’s Pennsylvania Station. It’s home to the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, and is the only venue to ever have a residency by Billy Joel. You can see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus or a New York Liberty Game. As of last weekend, Bassnectar will be added to the list of iconic performances to grace the stage at MSG, making for one hell of a check-off for producer Lorin Ashton’s bucket list.

Last Saturday, the Garden shook with bass in one of the most exciting electronic lineups to ever grace such a large venue without being a part of festival. The package included Bassnectar, Big Gigantic, Rusko, and Paper Diamond.

Perhaps the most famous venue in the world was sold out to a group of DJs that you’d never hear on the radio, another sign that live music is alive and well in the youth of America. Bassnectar joins the ranks of iconic Dutch trance DJ Armin van Buuren and the British group Above & Beyond in the ranks of electronic artists to sell out the venue.

Colorado’s Big Gigantic may be the only electronic duo with the guts to rock a drum set and saxophone onstage. And that’s rightfully so as I don’t think anyone else would be able to compete with what Big G has to offer. The crowd became electric while the group prepped for the only level of bass that could possibly follow the womping sounds of English dubstepper Rusko. They even brought out beatboxing king Rahzel.
