Slipknot have released another single from their upcoming album .5: The Gray Chapter. Entitled “Custer,” the new track shows another new side to the sound of the upcoming album.
Musically, this new track sounds most similar to the overall vibe of Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). The spoken intro immediately made me think of “Pulse of the Maggots” in particular. For comparison’s sake, I felt that “The Negative One” was as heavy as some of the band’s heaviest work on Iowa, and “The Devil In I” sounded more like a very heavy Stone Sour song than an all-out Slipknot song. It looks like the new album is turning out to be a greatest hits of the sounds that the band has created over the years, with some room to grow and move around sonically.
