It is quite an undertaking covering one of the most notable songs of the last century, but as many of you probably already know, Noah Gundersen is no average musician. Earlier in the week, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter teamed up with Paste Magazine to unveil his own unique rendition of Nirvana’s 1991 hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and aside from being straight up awesome, it is an absolute must-hear for fans of either act. Give it a listen by following the jump below.
Truth be told, I’m usually not a huge fan of cover songs, but this is one overhaul that I promise is worth your time. Laden with the same raw sincerity that made Ledges so memorable, Gundersen has transformed this fuming grunge anthem into a slow-burning ballad, allowing the poignant lyrics of Kurt Cobain to shine in a new and wondrous way. Both haunting and heavenly, if you’re a fan, let us know in the replies.
