BBC Radio 1 Is Rescoring ‘Drive’ With Chvrches, Jon Hopkins, The 1975, SBTRKT, More

Remember how cool the soundtrack for Drive was? It was almost as cool as Driver’s jacket, all ’80s-chic electric goodness, and it was one of the biggest reasons audiences fell in love with the film. That CD is still in my car as I type this. Now, BBC Radio is giving something that was already great another go.

Radio 1 Rescores: Drive – Curated By Zane Lowe will feature music from The 1975, Baauer, BANKS, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, Chvrches, Eric Prydz, Foals, John Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The Neighborhood, SBTRKT, and ZZC. All but one song is brand new. Chvrches’ contribution, “Get Away,” is already available; listen to that below, along with the new score’s trailer.

BBC Three will broadcast the film on October 30; viewers will be able to switch between this and the original soundtrack. We have yet to see whether this is a second sensational soundtrack for the film or yet another case of a remake gone awry, but it’s an interesting choice. Or, perhaps, an intentionally sensational – and thereby gross – one. There’s a bevy of talent here, some of which would not have been wholly out-of-place on the original sountrack. The fact that Jon Hopkins and Bring Me The Horizon will each have a credit on the same project is a truly jarring notion, though.
