Everything Is Awesome: Phil Lord & Chris Miller Returning To Write ‘The Lego Movie 2’

After recently getting moved from its original May 26, 2017 release date to a TBA time in 2018 because of the untitled Lego Batman spinoff, writer/directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller have been confirmed to return to pen the screenplay for The Lego Movie 2. The news broke over at Deadline that the duo will not return to direct as their future schedule is all filled up. Recently dropping out from the directing helm on their other franchise, the Jump Street series, Lord & Miller are producing and writing a plethora of future projects including a made-for-TV remake of the ’80s TV show The Greatest American Hero.

After the original The Lego Movie grossed over $468 million this year, my guess is that Warner Brothers wanted to get the next one as right as possible, so they moved it further down the line. I feel like Lord & Miller have something very big to announce in terms of films that they will be directing. They aren’t confirmed for anything after the pilot of Will Forte’s new TV show, Last Man on Earth. Until then, here’s a song to get stuck in your head for the day.
