Netflix has released the trailer for its Marco Polo series, and the company is clearly hoping for a big hit. The trailer boasts big amounts of sex and nudity, blood and warfare, and swords and samurai, coming off as Netflix’s Game of Thrones: Orient.
Per Indiewire, the project has a reported budget of $90 million, and it’s brought to us by Oscar season heavyweight Harvey Weinstein. For perspective, Netflix reportedly spent $100 million on two seasons of House of Cards.
The series was created by John Fusco (The Forbidden Kingdom, Hidalgo) and will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Kon-Tiki, Bandidas) for the first few episodes. Lorenzo Richelmy stars.
