Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Set To Sell 400,000 Copies In Second Week

According to an article released by Billboard last night, the domination of Taylor Swift’s new record, 1989, is set to continue in its second week on the charts. The album, which sold 1.3 million copies in its first week, is the first platinum record of 2014.

Billboard claims that industry sources are reporting the record will sell another 400,000 copies in its second week, bringing the total number to an estimated 1.7 million units sold in week 1 and 2 combined. This is 300,000 more than the projected number 2 record of the week, Now 52. Billboard predicts that Swift’s reign on the top of the charts will come to an end soon, with releases from Foo Fighters, Pink Floyd and Nick Jonas all looming in the near future.

Swift’s rise to platinum status created substantial buzz around the music business — she sold 600,000 copies on the first day, despite severing ties with the music streaming service Spotify. The Guardian reports Swift was accountable for 22 percent of records sold in the United States last week. With the record sales she’s accumulated over the last two weeks, it’s safe to say Swift is partying like it’s 1989.
