‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’ Continues To Dominate The Box Office

It should be a surprise to no one that the top grossing movie this week is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1. The first of two installments for the final chapter of the trilogy has killed its competition two weeks in a row now. Last weekend it opened with an impressive $121,000,000 debut. This weekend it saw a more than a 53% decrease in sales, but that was still enough to bring in more than double the amount of the next highest grossing movie.

Trailing behind the behemoth series is Penguins Of Madagascar, which brought in $25,800,000 in its first week. This spin-off hasn’t performed as well as the first three films; bringing in less than half of the ticket sales as its predecessors did in their first week.

Surprisingly enough, Gone Girl is still charting in the top ten, though it dropped from the fifth slot to eighth. This is its ninth week in theaters, and it brought in $2,470,000 this week.
