The First ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Trailer Is Shiny, Loud, And Confusing

The first trailer for Terminator: Genisys has found its way online, and it’s just as shiny as it is confusing.

Taking place sometime in the future, Terminator: Genisys tells the story of one many (Jai Courtney) being sent back in time to stop the events that take place in the first Terminator film from ever happening. He arrives too late, however, and the timeline he thought he would be arriving in no longer exists. Sarah Connor is still alive though, and he will need her help if he’s going to survive long enough to figure out exactly what is happening. You can view the trailer below:

I would be lying if I said I was excited for Terminator: Genisys. Though this trailer is plenty loud and it certainly looks like someone spent a lot of money on the CGI, the story is relatively absent and the editing looks as if the studio hired a child to piece together the clip. It’s all explosions and flashy sequences, but absolutely no heart, and heart is what made the initial entries in this franchise connect with audiences. Everything else is just breaking glass and special effects, which is fun, but you need more than fun in order to create a compelling narrative.

Terminator: Genisys opens July 1. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the trailer.
