Sufjan Stevens Announces New Album ‘Carrie & Lowell’

If you were let down by Sufjan Stevens‘ deeper venture into electro pop with Age of Adz, cheer up. The indie folk god has just announced a brand new album titled Carrie & Lowell and it’s described as a return to his “folk roots.” The album is out March 31 via Asthmatic Kitty Records.

The eleven-track release pictures his late mother and stepfather on the album cover. As such, the songs are about “life and death, love and loss, and the artist’s struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love” with Casey Foubert, Laura Veirs, Nedelle Torrisi, Sean Carey, Ben Lester, and Thomas Bartlett listed as collaborators. In the short album trailer the label released, we get to hear a snippet (presumably) of one of the songs, and it’s filled with the kind of trickling, intimate, gorgeous guitar you hope for. Pre-orders are ongoing here.

Check out the trailer for the new album and the tracklist below. Try not to hit reply. We dare you.
