This may seem hard to believe, but Best Coast have not released an album since 2012. It’s not as if they have been hiding all this time, either. The duo has traveled the world at least once since their last record dropped, including dates at countless festivals around the globe. They also spent a lot of time finding a new sound, which they are now sharing with fans through the new single “California Nights.”
Taken from an album with the same name, which is set for release in early May, “California Nights” is a lush pop rock jam that takes its sweet time winning you over. It lacks the immediate catchiness of the band’s previous material, but the song more than makes up for that shortcoming with gorgeous, dense production that some may declare to be a bit overwhelming. I don’t think we’ve ever heard Best Coast sound this big before, and it certainly makes me interested to hear what else they have ready to share. You can stream “California Nights” below:
If you like what you hear, you can pre-order California Nights right now on Best Coast’s official website. The album will be released on May 5.
