UTG PHOTOS: Doomtree at the Highline Ballroom in NYC (2/17/15)

Under The Gun Review sent photographer, Kellie Gannon, to The Highline Ballroom in New York City to photograph Doomtree on February 17, 2015.

Fans of the Minneapolis-based hip-hop collective Doomtree went absolutely ape-shit back in December upon the announcement that Doomtree would be returning to the stage in early 2015 with new music. Along with this announcement came the release of a new single titled “Gray Duck” which was actually the second single put out from the album. Back in the summer, “.38 Airweight” premiered but it wasn’t until December that the track list, album name, and current tour were announced as well.

The Doomtree tour kicked off in early February in support of their most recent album, All Hands, officially released on January 27 via Doomtree Records. On February 17, Doomtree hit the stage at New York City’s famous Highline Ballroom to a sold-out crowd. This was an insanely fun show to shoot because unlike most shows, there was the added challenge of keeping track of the seven incredibly talented Doomtree members moving around the stage simultaneously. The show was nothing short of impressive and rambunctious. Doomtree is made up of seven talented, multitasking members. Dessa, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, P.O.S., and Sims are all emcees, with Cecil Otter and P.O.S. also lending their skills as producers. Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger are also both producers, along with Paper Tiger lending his DJ and graphic art expertise. This combination provides a stage packed with energy, ambition, sick beats, and rapid fire rap styles that aim to please.

Mid-set the music stopped momentarily for a Hands Up tribute to those killed in cases of excessive force used by police. The group then launched back into a very deep song dedicated to Eric Garner, Michael Brown, etc. Overall it was an unbelievable show and I was grateful to have the chance to catch Doomtree in action. While they’re currently in the middle of a national tour, be sure to catch them in a city near you asap, and enjoy all the photos below from Doomtree in NYC!
