UTG PREMIERE: Ruby Nightingale – “Whole”

“Whole” is Australian singer-songwriter Ruby Nightingale’s first single off of her upcoming debut full-length record entitled Sleeping In Pashminas. Due out on March 10, the Hong Kong-raised, Connecticut-based indie/folk vocalist calls to mind the likes of Marissa Nadler, Laura Marling, and Angus & Julia Stevens. She has two previously released EPs and is very excited for what’s to come. Ruby shares:

“Seeing this record come together with the full band has been so incredibly fulfilling, and has really shown me my own music in a much larger light. It also contains some of the most direct writing I’ve ever done, which has been kind of a new journey for me lyrically that I’ve really loved. Sleeping In Pashminas covers a lot of ground for me in terms of depicting the last few years of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it.”

Very evident in this new single are her infectious harmonies, vibrant instrumentation, and heart string-tugging lyricism that all bring to us a feeling of serenity and nostalgia for home or places that resemble similar memories. “Whole” is only one of eight uniquely arranged tracks that let us into her world by way of her sincere songwriting and warm vocal timbre. This new record will definitely spruce up one’s indie/folk catalog. Similarly, her journey as a creative artist whose foundation stems from the most diverse of backgrounds will make for a very interesting one to follow.

Due to circumstances regarding her location, the record will not be able to see a proper, for-profit release. Ruby Nightingale, however, will be releasing Sleeping In Pashminas for free digitally on March 10. Make sure to keep an eye out for more information. You can take a listen to “Whole” below and let us know what you think!
