Hear Ryley Walker’s Incredible New Single “Sweet Satisfaction”

There’s something about handpicked guitar playing that never gets old, and Ryley Walker does a great job reminding us of how timeless it can be. The folk singer-songwriter drops his new album Primrose Green on March 31 via Dead Oceans. Pre-orders are ongoing here. In anticipation, he’s shared single “Sweet Satisfaction” to detail what we can expect on the release and it’s nothing short of intricate.

Ryley Walker’s ecstatic fingerpicking is what lures you into his songs, but his cool film of 1970s fog that sets over it will keep you around long after they’ve ended. “Sweet Satisfaction” sees pianist Ben Boye adding a jazz layer to the number, turning it into a late night song to smoke to at the warmest cocktail lounge. By the time Walker lets out a slow, fuzz-tinged guitar solo halfway through that then explodes into a heated combustion, it’s time to throw in your hat. Ryley Walker has the control and practice of a guitarist who’s been playing for decades. His age may not imply it, but Walker is part of a new generation of masterful guitarists, and “Sweet Satisfaction” shows his songwriting fluidity blended with beautiful, circular tones.
