Steven Spielberg to Make Disney Debut Next Summer

Next summer, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will continue to add to his legacy with yet another new undertaking—his first film for Disney.

According to a wealth of sources, the Academy Award-winning director will soon captain a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s celebrated children’s book, The BFG, based off a script penned by E.T. co-collaborator Melissa Mathison. Together with Ruby Barnhill, Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall, and many more, Spielberg and company will breathe new life into one of the most beloved stories of all time, which centers on a young girl named Sophie and her adventures alongside a surprisingly outgoing giant.

“In more than 40 years of making movies, I have been on the producing end of a number of films for the Walt Disney Company, but never as a director. It is a special joy to be in the director’s chair as we start The BFG, alongside my longtime friends and film collaborators,” said Spielberg.

The BFG is expected to hit theatres on July 1, 2016.
