N.W.A. Announce First Live Performance in Over 25 Years

To celebrate the release of the upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton, the surviving members of N.W.A. have announced that they will reunite on stage for the first time in 26 years. The performance will take place on June 27 as part of this year’s BET Experience, and will also feature performances by Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and ScHoolboy Q. Score tickets here.

“It’s just gonna be one of those ‘I wish I were there in L.A’. nights. And we’re gonna rock that shit, no problem,” said Ice Cube.

As if this news wasn’t awesome enough, Ice Cube also mentioned that N.W.A. may contribute new music to the Straight Outta Compton soundtrack, assuming that their present day output is up to snuff.

“We’re definitely dibbling and dabbling, so to speak,” the 45-year-old rapper said. “It’s all about how great it comes out when you’re creating something. We can throw anything together; we can put rhymes and beats together easy. But our expectation level is so high, and if we meet our threshold, the world gets to hear what it is. If we don’t, we still need more time together to make it happen.”

It’s been far too long since Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren, and Dr. Dre graced the world with new music, and as you probably guessed, we’ll be eagerly awaiting their welcome return to hip-hop. If you will be too, let us know in the comments.

Straight Outta Compton arrives on August 14. Check out the film’s red band trailer below.
