Many of us have pets, and I would wager that those of us who don’t often wish they did. I have two cats myself, and though I work from home most days the times I do need to leave my dwelling I find myself wondering just what my furry friends do to pass the time. Next year, thanks to the team who gave us Despicable Me, I will have my answer.

Today, the first teaser for The Secret Life Of Pets appeared online. The clip showcases a full cast of characters, including cats, dogs, squirrels, and fish, all of whom live a secret life when their owners are away. The trailer does not give away any plot, but instead chooses to focus on what most of us probably assume our pets do when we’re gone, only now they can also talk. You can view the footage below.

Comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart make their animated feature-film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets, which co-stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio. The film opens everywhere July 8, 2016.
