It’s Time You Fell In Love With Young Punk Heroes Choke Up

Pop punk has dominated the alternative scene for the better part of the last half decade. So much so, in fact, that many seem to have forgotten there are variations of punk that don’t involve constant references to friendship, pizza, and getting over that girl who broke your heart in junior high. If that applies to you, maybe you should feel bad. I’m not here to ruin your day, but there are a number of great punk artists fighting to survive out there, and you’re only doing yourself a disservice by not taking time to discover their immense talent.

One act I cannot urge you to check out enough is young Boston punk group Choke Up. These guys seriously kick a lot of ass. I like to think of their sound as a punk version of Tiny Moving Parts, with all the ferocity of a rabid wolf who has developed an unquenchable thirst for baby blood, but who also isn’t afraid to have a good time. Most people don’t think of punk as the soundtrack to their next big party, but as the band’s new video for “Woke Up Drunk” reveals, it’s probably high time you plan a punk get-together with all of your closest friends. You can view the video, which premiered on Substream earlier this week, at the end of this post.

Choke Up’s critically-acclaimed Black Numbers full-length debut, Black Coffee, Bad Habits, is available now. Don’t be a fool who doesn’t order a copy, then later kicks themselves after all their friends get hip to the band. Buy a copy today to help yourself, Choke Up, and Black Numbers thrive. Go on. We believe in you.
