First ‘Krampus’ Trailer Promises Ample Yuletide Carnage

Ah, the Christmas season–a joyful time filled with good tidings, holiday cheer, and brotherly love. Between the presents, the eggnog, and the 1,674 straight hours of A Christmas Story, there are few annual celebrations as anticipated as Saint Nick’s yearly run.

However, that may all change this December thanks to Michael Dougherty, who seems intent on decimating all of our childhood dreams with his latest offering, Krampus. Set to make landfall just a few weeks before the fat man’s flight, the 40-year-old director’s newest film brings together ancient European folklore and beloved holiday tropes to create a zany monster romp that won’t soon be forgotten.

“It’s one thing to be terrified or enthralled when you’re watching a film,” said the Trick ‘r Treat filmmaker. “To then leave the theater and realize it’s based on real myths and legends only makes it sink in even deeper.”

Starring Adam Scott, David Koechner, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman and Emjay Anthony, Krampus centers on a young boy named Max who has recently become disillusioned by the idea of Santa, and the holiday season as a whole. Unfortunately, his lack of yuletide enthusiasm accidentally summons Krampus, a monstrous, horned demon whose sole purpose is to punish [i.e. slaughter] non-believers with the help of his nightmare-inducing minions. Check out the film’s first trailer below:

Ho-ho-holy shit, right?! I love Ralphie’s stupid bunny suit as much as the next guy, but it looks like we have a whole new reason to get excited for the holidays. If you’re equally stoked, sound off in the replies.
