Bloc Party have announced that their fifth full-length studio album, HYMNS, will arrive on January 29 via Infectious Music/BMG/Vagrant Records. The British foursome’s latest undertaking follows 2012’s Four, and will be the group’s first release to feature bassist Justin Harris and drummer Louise Bartle.
According to frontman Kele Okereke, the outfit’s new LP was inspired by author Hanif Kureishi’s (My Beautiful Laundrette, Intimacy) outlook on evangelical art.
“The first music I ever heard was hymns at school,” Okereke said. “I started to think, if I was going to make music that had a spiritual dimension, that was sacred to me and to the things that I held important, how would I do it?”
Additionally, the band has unveiled the record’s vibrant lead single, “The Love Within.” Check it out below, along with the album’s cover art and full track listing.
