UTG PREMIERE: Oceans Red – ‘Anevidence’

We’ve been keen to Oceans Red since their inception, and over the past few years, have had the pleasure of watching them grow into the metalcore maestros they are today. Hailing from the far reaches of Eastern Europe, the fast-rising four-piece have built a devote following around huge hooks and bone-crushing breakdowns, and while they certainly aren’t reinventing the wheel, there’s an undeniable charm to the outfit’s familiar blueprint.

Today, we are beyond stoked to host the world premiere of the foursome’s brand new album, Anevidence, a 13-track beatdown that is sure to get listeners on their feet and moving. Listen in below, where you’ll also find a quick Q&A with guitarist Jimmy X Rose, who was kind enough to give us all the details on the band’s latest undertaking.

If you like what you hear, you can snag your own copy of Anevidence through iTunes or Google Play.

UTG: First and foremost, how does it feel to finally have your new record out and in the hands of fans?

JXR: Such a relief, to be honest. It tore our hearts getting messages with people wondering about the release almost every day and having nothing to reply with. We announced the record in March, and were hoping for a spring/summer release, but all we did for the next half-year was deal with legal issues, such as trying get a release from our former label. It was extremely depressing. The worst thing that can happen to a band that wants to play shows and write music is to just sit and wait. But now, Anevidence is out and we’re just thankful for everyone who didn’t give up on us!

In what ways do you feel your guys’ latest effort differs from your past releases?

Well, it obviously differs in a certain way, but that’s not to say that we intended on making this record different from our EP, or that we tried to copy the EP and it didn’t work out. [laughs] First, we have two new band members, so there’s no doubt that their vision and ideas influenced Anevidence to some point. But the most important thing is that we never have and never will be “planning” our sound. Hold Your Breath was one great experiment, and fans will absolutely recognize their favorite sound on this new album, but that’s not really our main goal. Some artists would say, “The last record was a success, let’s have the next one sound the same,” but we’re not like that. Who knows what we release next.

You guys recently linked up with Kerrang! to debut the record’s lead single, “Home,” and during said premiere, you mentioned that you’re all from different countries. Did this distance make the writing of your newest album difficult?

It actually did, and keeps giving us hard times. Running the band this way means that every “5-minute issue” turns into a problem for days or even weeks, just because we can’t sit in front of each other and discuss it. But the fact that we’ve been able to release a record that we’re all extremely happy with is proof that we’re united in our dream and that passion always overcomes distance.

Do you personally have a favorite track from Anevidence?

Everyone in the band most likely has their own, but “Home” is our mutual favorite, which is why we picked it as a single to represent the album. There’s something special in every other track, and none of them would be on the album if we didn’t like them, but “Home” reflects every other Anevidence song, which makes it central.

Now that the album is out, you guys will be on the road for most of January. What are you most looking forward to about this upcoming outing?

Due to the previously referenced issues, we haven’t played a show for almost a year now, so we’re itching to get out on stage as soon as possible. We guarantee that those shows will be crazy as there’s so much energy to release. Plus, that’s going to be our first time in mainland Europe and we’re sure there’s quite a few people waiting to see us. We can’t wait to meet them, and we’re looking forward to the good times ahead!
