David Bowie has died at the age of 69.

After initially confirming the upsetting news via Bowie’s verified Facebook and Twitter pages, publicists have confirmed that David Bowie has passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer with multiple outlets, including Billboard and Sky News.

The shocking death closely follows the release of Bowie’s final record, Blackstar, which released on Friday, January 8—Bowie’s 69th birthday. Bowie earned the love and respect of the world through his adored discography consisting of an impressive twenty-five studio records, as well as appearances in films such as 1986’s Labyrinth.

This one hurts. Rest in peace, David Bowie. See you on Mars.
