Temporary Hero’s ‘CHET’ is a unique, alluring tribute to a jazz great

Portland, Maine’s Jonah Bell, aka Temporary Hero, has taken on many musical challenges during his time as an artist, but arguably most impressive are his ambitious but wholly original tributes to some of the most beloved musicians of all time. Following full-length salutes to both Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Temporary Hero’s newest undertaking is a collection of re-imagined tracks by legendary jazz musician Chet Baker—ones for which the Oklahoma native famously provided his own vocals.

With the 9-track effort, aptly titled CHET, it’s clear that Temporary Hero has created one of the most interesting projects in recent memory. Blending elements of several genres into modern, experimental pop compositions with hypnotizing arrangements and powerful vocals, CHET is beautiful and captivating from beginning to end.

To top it all off, there’s a website dedicated to the project with individual visual art and information for each track on the album. On the site, Bell explains, “Every single song I hear prompts the creation of another need to express something beyond the sound barrier. That is where the visual arts, whether via film, still photography, or viewing a dance, play a role in the overall concept of how I like to create a project.”

You can stream CHET in full below, but to get the full, immersive experience make sure to listen on the website as you browse the accompanying images.
