oldsouldspeirssplit

We’re thrilled to bring you an exclusive stream of the new four-track split EP from Lowell, Massachusetts’ oldsoul and Rochester, New York’s Speirs. The effort features two songs from each band and will be officially released tomorrow, February 7, serving as 2016’s first release for Honest Face Records.

Below, you can stream the EP in full and read what each band had to say about working with one another and how they think their respective sounds balance on the joint release. The split will be available digitally and on CD tomorrow through Honest Face.

Tom (guitar/vocals) of oldsoul: “Unlike our first EP, the two songs on the split were the product of a more concentrated effort of songwriting. All four of us got together, and contributed ideas and parts. We feel that each of our musical styles come across in both songs; distinguishably, yet also cohesively. Working with Honest Face has been great. Jake (from Honest Face) has been really great to work with. I came across Speirs’ self-titled EP by chance about 5 months ago, and was really excited by it. I was impressed by the way their music was so spirited—giving me a sensation similar to the first real, warm day of spring, when wearing short-sleeves feels novel. The first song in particular had that same sort of refreshing energy behind it. So it was a wonderful coincidence when they reached out to us about doing a split.”

Speirs: “Overall we are ecstatic with the split. From a working perspective, oldsoul and Honest Face Records are professional, prompt and almost suspiciously easy to work with. In addition to that, they are really awesome people and fun to talk to. The flow of the album feels like magic and despite having two distinct bands, like any split, there is a united spirit we did not expect to occur so easily. We love how the directions oldsoul take their songs are unpredictable without meandering. It seems like if they go somewhere, they do it with intention. It is impossible not to like the colours in their guitar work and vibe out to Jess’ vocals.”
