7fields releases stripped-down cover of The Strokes’ “Heart In A Cage”

Under the moniker of 7fields, Wolfgang Schrödl, ex-singer/guitarist in the now-defunct, German rock band Liquido, has released a cover of The Strokes’ “Heart In A Cage,” taken from the band’s 2006 release, First Impressions of Earth.

In a wildly different interpretation of the Julian Casablancas-penned single, Schrödl strips the rocking source material down to an affecting acoustic number that leaves no trace of The Strokes, but an interesting and memorable take nonetheless. Speaking on his choice to take on this track in particular, Schrödl says, “Even as a songwriter, I find it sometimes tempting to newly interpret existing compositions…but only if I can highlight a facet of the song in which I recognize myself, allowing me to only hint at the original. Such was the case for “Heart In A Cage.”

You can listen to the song below and purchase it through iTunes.
