Vinnie Caruana emotionally strips down with “Survivor’s Guilt”

I Am The Avalanche/The Movielife frontman Vinnie Caruana has released the title track, “Survivor’s Guilt,” off his upcoming first solo LP, out May 27 via Equal Visions/Big Scary Monsters. The song is a contrast to the faster-paced tracks we’re used to hearing from both his bands as it’s just Caruana and an acoustic guitar.

In an interview with Brooklyn Vegan, Caruana explains how he came up with the album title: “I named the whole record after a quote from the second verse of this song. I sometimes become fixated on those who have gone before us and am constantly questioning if I’m making the most and best of life. It could all be over tomorrow or 50 years from now. I feel lucky to be here no matter how fucked life can get.”

Here’s the second verse of the track “Survivor’s Guilt” if you’re curious where he found the inspiration:

“Let me run
I gave you all the best of me and all the worst is in the grave
Needlessly nostalgic
Survivor’s guilt is a death sentence
Please don’t try to make sense of a fucked up tradition: to have and to hold the heaviest heart of anyone.”
