Ringu (The Ring) and Ju-on (better known in America as The Grudge) franchises are two of the biggest horror franchises in Japan. If you’ve ever dreamed of a crossover between the two film series, your dream has come true with the release of the first trailer for Sadako vs. Kayako.

In the trailer, protagonist Yūri Kurahashi (Mizuki Yamamoto) manages to watch the videotape containing Sadako Yamamura from Ringu while inside the house where Kayako Saeki of Ju-on dwells. This proves to be a less than perfect idea when both spirits are unleashed into the world. Either after or during the process of terrorizing Yūri and her friends, Kayako and Sadako square off. You can watch the trailer below; there are no subtitles but the visuals translate regardless.

“Versus” style horror movies don’t have the best track record (Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator), but we’re still intrigued by Sadako vs. Kayako. At the very least it should be fun to see these J-Horror icons on screen at the same time.

Sadako vs. Kayako, directed by Kōji Shiraishi and starring Mizuki Yamamoto, Tina Tamashiro, and Aimi Satsukawa is set for release in Japan on June 18. There’s no news yet of a North American release, but we’ll keep you up to date.
