Some refreshing alternative: Secret Space’s “I’ve Come Around”

Equal Vision Records has always housed some of the indie world’s most unique up-and-coming artists. Ten years ago, they were bringing us albums such as Chiodos’ All’s Well That Ends Well, Coheed’s Good Apollo I, Circa Survive’s Juturna and The Fall of Troy’s Doppelganger. Those are all bands that went on to become serious contenders in the last decade’s grudge match for recognition.

Today, EVR still houses names we love, such as I The Mighty and The Dear Hunter. But let’s talk about a new band on the roster: Secret Space. With their debut full-length, The Window Room, due out on June 17, this alt trio are ready to ride those EVR waves.

The band’s newest single, “I’ve Come Around,” is a chilled out toe-tapper with a very interesting chord progression in its chorus. As a musician, I know how hard it can be to settle on the right progression for a song, especially one that will go behind a hook. Secret Space seem to have an ear for finding the right one—the one that both fits and will help the song stand out and be the best it can be. Here’s to hoping the rest of the album follows suit.

Stream the single below and let us know what you think. The album, produced by Will Yip, is available for pre-order, bundled with some very cool shirts and such via MerchNow, and the band is kicking off a Northeastern tour with Turnover and Sports starting on June 17. Dates are below.
