Of all the holidays celebrated worldwide, no single day is more loved by the UTG staff than Halloween. With the arrival of the year’s best month, the time has finally come to begin rolling out a plethora of features and special announcements we have prepared in celebration of our favorite day, including the one you’re about to read.

Now in its third year, 31 Days Of Halloween is a recurring feature that will run throughout the month of October. The hope and goal of this column is to supply every UTG reader with a daily horror (or Halloween-themed) movie recommendation …

HOLY SH!T: ‘Deadpool’ Movie Test Footage Leaks Online

In a world overrun with superhero films it seems a little strange that Deadpool, otherwise known as the merc with the mouth, has yet to be given his own film. It’s true he’s a little more violent and a lot more profane than your typical hero, but after witnessing the footage we’re about to share I think you too will be demanding a big screen Wade Wilson adventure in the near future.

20th Century FOX has owned the rights to Deadpool for a while, and around 2010 they began to plan a solo film for the long-running comic hero. The …

Drake to Host First ‘Saturday Night Live’ Episode of 2014

He started from the bottom, and now he’s definitely at the top. Actor-turned-rapper Drake will be heading back to Saturday Night Live again, but this time as a host.

When he was the musical guest for the first time in 2011, Drake kept begging to be in a skit until finally he was cast as a werewolf who would steal candy from kids on Halloween. So now for the first episode of SNL in the new year, Drake will be both the host and musical guest. Looks like he can stand alongside Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga as …

The Beach Boys

Filming for Beach Boys Biopic ‘The Drummer’ Has Halted

It looks like The Beach Boys biopic is about to be kaput, once and for all. The band’s drummer, Dennis Wilson, drowned 30 years ago this month, and was set to have his life retold in a biopic called The Drummer. But Aaron Eckhart, the man cast to portray Wilson, backed out in June of last year just before production was set to begin. This means that six-minute version of Wilson’s unfinished “Holy Man” (which featured Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins and Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor) will probably never see the light of day if The Drummer doesn’t pull …

Cartel to Begin Recording New Album

Pop-rockers, Cartel, are entering the studio on August 20 to begin recording their new album. The forthcoming album will be the Georgia quartet’s fourth, and first full-length since 2009’s Cycles. Last year Cartel released the quick-hitting, pop-gem , In Stereo EP.

The band tweeted,

Michael is the Founder and Director of the Philly-based LGBT+ non-profit, Punk Out. He enjoys moshing endlessly, forgetting his karaoke performance from the previous night, and pushing that Big Gay Agenda.

Transit Release ” I Think I Know You” Video

Boston’s Transit have released their official video for “I Think I Know You.”

Taken from the group’s 2011 effort Listen & Forgive, “I Think I Know You” is a midtempo pop rock jam with plenty of vocal layers and playful metaphors to get you as entranced as physically possible. The visuals offer a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s last year on tour, complete with live footage and hijinks. You can view the clip after the jump.

Transit are one of the hardest working bands in the genre right now. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.

MUSIC VIDEO: Beirut – The Rip Tide

Brooklyn, NY rockers Beirut have released beautiful new video for their title track “The Rip Tide” and can be viewed by simply heading through the jump. This album was released last year through Pompeii Records.

The band’s own Zach Condon said this about director Houmam Abdallah’s work on “The Rip Tide,” according to Pitchfork.

“I always felt that “The Rip Tide” wasn’t fully able to project its own ambitions in song form.. no matter how it was performed or recorded, it felt contained by sound alone… I wanted more, as I often do with my music, and this is not

UTG TV: Squid The Whale – Rolling In The Deep (Live In Grand Rapids)

Last fall the UTG TV crew captured Michigan’s Squid The Whale performing Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” at the MXTP venue in Grand Rapids. Today, that footage is being made available for the first time.

Don’t let that introduction fool you, this footage is nothing extraordinary (aside from the talent), we simply made a few mistakes and missed running this back in when it was originally captured in 2011. Considering how slow news has been lately, and the ever-present demand for truly great entertainment, we figured we’d go ahead and release it now so that it at least has the …

MOVIE REVIEW: Silent House

Film: Silent House
Starring: Elizabeth Olsen
Directed by: Chris Kentis and Laura Lau

The first great horror film of 2012 has arrived.

Built on a gimmick that is developed from content over style, Silent House arrives in North American theaters today with a tale of home invasion captured in a single take (though reports claim there are few carefully place cuts). The film that relies heavily on cliches, but thanks to strong acting and an engaging concept, I dare say anyone that loves horror will find something to like about this film.

James Shotwell is the founder of
