Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” shatters sales records

Lady Gaga, to the surprised of no one, has entered the Billboard charts at #1 this week with her latest album, Born This Way. According to Billboard, the follow-up to The Fame sold roughly 1,108,000 units last week, marking the highest single week sales since 50 Cent’s The Massacre in 2005.

“Born This Way” opens at #1 in the UK, takes down Adele

The queen of 2011, Adele, has been dethroned by the queen of theatrics, Lady Gaga. After a much heralded run atop the UK album charts, the “Chasing Pavement” singer’s latest album (21) was finally overtaken by Mother Monster’s Born This Way with impressive sales of just over 215,000 units. The Top 10 UK albums (for […]

Gaga does something pointless, sells more units

Lady Gaga recently spent nearly $1000 purchasing her new album, Born This Way, at Best Buy. This continues a week of outrageous (and shameless) self-promotion that has included having the album carried at almost every retail location, surprising fans with a .99 cent download of the record on Monday, and more. While we appreciate the […]

Another week, another low sales record

For the third time this year, the record for the lowest top album sales of the week has been set. Last week, Amos Lee sold 40,000 copies of Mission Bell to claim the #1 spot on Billboard, while Iron & Wine opened at #2 with 39,0000 units moved for the latest, Kiss Each Other Clean. It’s not all bad news though as this marks the highest single week sales for both Lee and I&W. What does this mean for the industry? Has turning our pop/rock talent into “single” artists destroyed their ability to move albums? Comment and let’s start a discussion!
