Arms & Sleepers Release ‘Instrumentals’

I’ve gushed about Boston’s Arms & Sleepers a lot over the years. Their music means a lot to me and that’ll never change. So in return, the least I can do is spread the word on any and everything they do.

Their most recent undertaking, following 2014’s fantastic Swim Team, includes an 8-track release of instrumental songs. These are instrumental versions of previously-released songs that originally featured vocals in some capacity – somewhat of a rarity within the A&S catalogue as a whole. With cuts from Black Paris ’86 (2007), Matador (2009), and The Organ Hearts (2011), Instrumentals takes …

Dave Dk Halma

Hear Dave DK’s Excellent New Electronic Single “Halma”

Kompakt electronic musician Dave DK is back. The German DJ and producer has announced a follow-up to 2007’s Moodmusic. The album, titled Val Maira, drops April 27. In anticipation of its release, he’s shared lead single “Halma,” and it’s an excellent journey through house music and dodgy layering.

“Halma” sees Dave DK coming back headstrong. The six-minute track kicks off with street chatter before diving straight into The Field territory. Muted synths loop over sharp drumming, the sound of a trance setting in, making themselves a welcome background noise to the ring of bells and hand claps that follow. Not …

Vancouver Sleep Clinic

STREAM: Vancouver Sleep Clinic – “Flaws”

Are you a fan of Band Of Horses, Ed Tullett or Bon Iver? If so, then you might like Brisbane-based ambient outfit Vancouver Sleep Clinic. The group will be self-releasing their six track Winter EP March 10, and a couple of days ago they premiered a new single from it. The song is titled “Flaws,” and you can listen to it below the jump.

“Flaws” is a slow, haunting track and sounds like something that you should listen to bundled up in your living room next to a crackling fire. If you like what you hear, you can …

Hear a New Single From Inventions (Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium)

Ambient post-rock lovers heard good news a little over a week ago when it was reported that Mark T. Smith of Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium’s Matthew Cooper teamed up to form a new band called Inventions. Their full self-titled LP is due April 1 via Temporary Residence Ltd., but you can get a taste of their sound now with “Entity.”

The single takes a dive into the ambient underwater with slow-motion cymbal crashes and echoing guitar. If you gave Explosions in the Sky’s score for 2013 film Prince Avalanche a listen, then this shouldn’t come as a …

slack armada

We had the chance to speak with Chicago’s James Hrabak, a solo musician that recently released his debut EP under the moniker Slack Armada. Melding post-rock elements with ambient tones, Slack Aramada, for now, provides a 4-track instrumental effort comprised of true beauty and excellent influences.

Below, you can read through our interview as Hrabak discusses his new EP, his plans for the future, and even shares with us his top albums of 2013.

Can you tell us first about the name you chose for this project and your history with music that led to Slack Armada? You’ve claimed

STREAM: Hammock – ‘Oblivion Hymns’

Straight from the ambient world of another planet us humans can only experience via their music, Nashville duo Hammock is back with a new album, Oblivion Hymns, and it’s as beautiful as ever.

2004 saw Hammock–Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson, both guitarists–becoming one of the most important modern masts in ambient post-rock. Oblivion Hymns is their sixth album and it holds up to their past work. From slow violin parts to gentle children choruses, the album title is certainly deserved and only a small nod to the overall breadth this captures. Sit back, turn off the lights, and listen to …

Treebeard Reveal Video For Their New Single, “XIV”

Treebeard recently announced a new full length album, titled Stars Over Somber Skies. The album will be released November 12 via We Are Triumphant Records. To celebrate the announcement, the group revealed a new single from the album, and released the music video for it as well.

The band’s music has been a healthy mix of ambient and post hardcore, and “XIV” is no exception. This track has to be one of my favorites they’ve released to date, and if it’s any indication of what we can expect the rest of their album to sound like, then we will …

We’re ecstatic to learn that after a previous brief hiatus, Max and Mirza, the duo that make up New England’s ambient trip-hop outfit, Arms & Sleepers, have announced that they are working on, and will be releasing, a brand new album.

In a partially cryptic reveal yesterday, A&S posted single letter statuses via Facebook that eventually spelled out M-I-A-M-I, followed today by, “We are working on a new full-length album. Slowly. The working title is M-I-A-M-I. We’ll tell you more about it in due time.”

So, there you have it. In due time we will have more information. …
