Right Away, Great Captain! to Re-release Vinyl Box Set in 2015

Die hard Manchester Orchestra fans get some good news today. The band’s frontman, Andy Hull, announced his solo project Right Away, Great Captain! will be re-releasing its four full-length LPs on vinyl for a brand new box set in 2015.

Hull posted the message on Twitter today, apparently in response to several fans asking over the years. “Merry Christmas!” he writes. “A lot of yall have been asking and the plan is to rerelease the RAGC vinyl box set in 2015. Now go cuddle a family member.”

The last we heard from Right Away, Great Captain!, the act had …

Say Anything’s New Album Doesn’t Have Any Guitars On It

Last month Say Anything confirmed that they would be releasing their sixth studio album, titled Hebrews, June 10 via Equal Vision Records. What they didn’t tell us though was how ambitious and unique this project was going to be. Today, the band teamed up with Billboard to reveal some very exciting details about their upcoming album as well as premiere the lead single.

In a brief interview with Billboard, Max Bemis states that there aren’t any guitars on the album. Instead, it’s full of orchestral instruments. In addition to that, there are sixteen guest vocalists on the album. The …

REVIEW: Manchester Orchestra – ‘Cope’

Artist: Manchester Orchestra
Album: Cope
Genre: Rock
Label: Favorite Gentlemen / Loma Vista

Most of my adolescence was spent exclusively listening to heavy music. If it wasn’t metal (or hardcore punk, post-hardcore, you get the idea), I probably wasn’t listening to it.

It wasn’t until college that I began listening to lighter music (or “indie rock,” whatever that term even means anymore), and Manchester Orchestra’s I’m Like A Virgin Losing A Child was one of the first albums to spark that shift in my musical development. I don’t even remember how I discovered them. I was probably just looking through …

MUSIC VIDEO: Manchester Orchestra – “Top Notch”

Manchester Orchestra have unleashed (as a SPIN exclusive for now) the dark, chilling music video for “Top Notch,” the lead single from their upcoming LP Cope. The album hits stores on April 1, and from the sounds of “Top Notch” and what frontman Andy Hull has said about the release, it could be the band’s heaviest record yet.

The band will soon hit the road on the Cope Tour with support from Kevin Devine and Balance and Composure. That tour kicks off on April 17 in Tampa, FL and runs through the end of May. Manchester Orchestra’s full slate …

LISTEN: Manchester Orchestra – “Top Notch”

Manchester Orchestra have released a new track titled “Top Notch,” from their upcoming album, Cope.

With a giant sound, and a noticeably heavier production than Simple Math, the Atlanta based band is back with a shout. Featuring a massive opening, followed by consciously orchestrated blasts of sounds, the band takes you on quite the adventure. With Andy Hull sounding as smooth as ever (who would have thought otherwise?), and a skillfully crafted structure, “Top Notch” will most likely be on my constant listening schedule for the rest of the week.

Follow us after the jump to experience it …

Manchester Orchestra Members Release Solo Tracks

As a part of the Fadeaway Records compilation, Fadeaway Records 10: Friends, members of the Atlanta-based band have released three solo tracks.

The three songs are performed by frontman Andy Hull, Robert McDowell and Chris Freeman. Hull’s “Back of Your Old Church” offers up a great representation of his comforting, breathy vocals reminiscent of his Right Away, Great Captain! days. McDowell, performing under the pseudonym “Gobotron,” brings the careful, edging “Walk Like A Dog,” beckoning thoughts of Simon and Garfunkel. Freeman, calling himself “Alaska” took the concept route with “A Teacher In The Sun,” taking the voice of a …

WATCH: Bad Books – “Forest Whitaker” Acoustic

Kevin Devine and Andy Hull from Manchester Orchestra are the two songwriters in Bad Books, whose recent album, II, we are in love with. Now you can see the two songwriters perform their song “Forest Whitaker” off their sophomore album acoustically.

This performance is softer and more emotional than the original – I suppose stripped down performances will do that. The band is currently concluding its tour, with one US show tonight and two UK shows the only ones currently schedule.

ALBUM STREAM: Bad Books – ‘II’

Bad Books, the indie rock super group that is Kevin Devine and Andy Hull and his Manchester Orchestra, have streamed their new album, II, out October 9. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a review from us at UTG that’s coming soon.

Just as we loved the lead single, we’re loving this so far. I personally think the album is a bit heavier than I expected – and that’s a good thing. You can hear the entire album for yourself right here after the break.
