Listen to Billy Joel’s Take On Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed”

Being released on Nov. 18 is one of the most star-studded Paul McCartney tribute records we’ve seen yet. The Art Of McCartney, which honors one of the most established songwriters in our time, features 34 (42 via a deluxe version) tracks that, among others, include: The Cure (and Paul’s son James’) taken on “Hello, Goodbye” (which you can listen to here), Kiss’ performance where they have combined “Rock Show” and “Venus And Mars,” Willie Nelson’s “Yesterday,” Bob Dylan’s “The Things We Say,” and as we’re hearing today, one of the two Billy Joel contributions on this compilation, “Maybe …

Bob Dylan Tribute

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Built To Spill – “Jokerman” (Bob Dylan Cover)

Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume One is a compilation tribute album that has been put together by producers Jesse Lauter and Sean O’Brien. The intent of the album is to highlight some underrated songs from Dylan’s “ignored” decade in music. One of the contributing artists is the Idaho based group known as Built To Spill. Even though the group announced last year that they would be going on a hiatus, it seems that they were able to spare a little bit of time to put together an awesome cover of Dylan’s “Jokerman.” You can listen to the song …

Dave Matthews, Jakob Dylan Form New Band

Dave Matthews and Jakob Dylan (the son of Bob Dylan and vocalist for The Wallflowers) have joined forces to create the supergroup The Nauts. Also in the band are Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton, his brother Will Sexton, and Brady Blade (who has accompanied Matthews on drums in the past).

The band has recently recorded new material in Shreveport, Louisiana at Brady Blade’s studio.

Unscene!, a music website based in Shreveport, has posted a biography on The Nauts:

“What started out as a fun project for Brady Blade to get some musicians together and jam—such as Dave Matthews, Jakob Dylan, …

Bob Dylan Sued by Croatians for Racism

Following the release of an interactive video for “Like A Rolling Stone” that took the web by storm, the singer-songwriter is being sued for racism by a group of Croatians.

In a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, Dylan commented on the conflict between the Catholic Croats and Christian Orthodox Serbs, comparing it to Jews and Nazis as well as slavery in America.

According to the International Business Times, Vlatko Marić, Croatian secretary general, said: “It is an incitement to hatred. You cannot compare Croatian criminals to all Croats. But we have nothing against Rolling Stone magazine or Bob Dylan as …

Must Watch: Bob Dylan’s New Music Video For “Like a Rolling Stone”

Even if Bob Dylan‘s “Like a Rolling Stone” wasn’t one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever recorded, the new music video would still be worth watching. I say “watching” because it’s a music video, but “watching” isn’t quite the right word, since the video is actually interactive, allowing you to flip through television channels, each of which features different people, from cartoon characters to game show hosts to Bob Dylan himself, singing the classic tune. It’s a fascinating concept for a music video, and you could easily spend hours watching all of the channels.

Stream the Soundtrack for ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’

If anyone needed a little something extra to get yourself going on this Monday morning, well, you’re in luck as NPR has made the entire Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack available for streaming. The excellent new film from the Coen Brothers explores the 1960s New York underground folk scene. I reviewed the film for UTG last week, while it arrives in theaters on December 20.

The soundtrack sees Oscar Isaac, the star of the film, collaborating with the likes of Marcus Mumford and producer T-Bone Burnett, who found similar success on the soundtracks for O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Crazy

Hear Bob Dylan’s 1970 Outtake “Tomorrow Is A Long Time”

New MorningBob Dylan‘s eleventh studio album containing hits such as “The Man In Me” and “If Not For You,” has just had an outtake of “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” revealed. The song never made it onto the album, but a beautiful live 1963 version was slotted in his Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Now, over 40 years later, a new version has surfaced.

“Tomorrow Is A Long Time” was made popular by its covers–ranging from Rod Stewart to Elvis Presley himself–but now we get to hear it in a new light. Instead of the soft, tender version …

Blind Boys of Alabama with Justin Vernon

STREAM: The Blind Boys of Alabama ft. Justin Vernon – “Every Grain Of Sand (Bob Dylan Cover)”

Much like Jay Z, it seems like Justin Vernon wants to get his hands in on just about everything. Apart from Bon Iver, Volcano Choir, P.O.S., Gayngs, The Shouting Matches, and Kanye West, Vernon has taken gospel group The Blind Boys of Alabama under his folk arms by producing their new album, I’ll Find A Way, out October 1. But, of course, he needs to get his own voice in there, too.

The group do a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Every Grain of Sand” which is quite impressive, even if you normally don’t give gospel a …

Record Store Day 2013 Release List Announced

Vinyl purchasing is on the rise in the industry. However it never really died. Celebrated since 2007, Record Store Day is a day in April (2013 will celebrate on April 20) where fans celebrate their local record shops by purchasing records. While I am of the strict belief that every day is record store day, this special day does have something fun to offer collectors: limited vinyl. Today at UTG we are excited to share with you a list (which I’m sure will get updated).

Labels work together with their artists to bring limited, repressed, and unreleased material to wax, …

REVIEW: Alcoa – Bones and Marrow

Artist: Alcoa
Album: Bones and Marrow
Label: Bridge 9

Defeater is a hardcore band that’s been on the rise over the past few years. With their release of Empty Days & Sleepless Nights in 2011, the band grew exponentially in their popularity. They are fast, aggressive and just an overall intense emotional experience. When I found out that singer of Defeater Derek Archambault had a side project named Alcoa, I was skeptical. I knew that the acoustic tracks on Empty Days & Sleepless Nights were awesome, but I didn’t really know how much of a hand Derek had  in …

The Wallflowers

Album Stream: The Wallflowers Preview “Glad All Over”

Slated for an October 2 release through Columbia Records, The Wallflowers are previewing their new album, Glad All Over, on iTunes.

Whereas each song only gets a minute-and-a-half preview, the streams are enough to get a decent grasp on the album.

Glad All Over was announced earlier this year after Jakob Dylan, son of Bob Dylan, told Rolling Stone of the band’s return from hiatus.

Dylan still sports his signature slow, drawling vocals over The Wallflowers’ classic alternative folk-rock sound.

The band will be touring throughout North America until mid-November in support of Glad All Over. Purchase …

REVIEW: Bob Dylan – Tempest

Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Tempest
Genre: Bob Dylan
Label: Columbia

Let’s just put into context what a writer is up against when asked to break down the music of Bob Dylan. The album crooning through my Koss headphones will mark the 35th album released by the man. That’s 3 more albums than I have years of life. He has sold roughly sixty-million albums in his lifetime, give or take a bundle. If I handed a purchased album to every person in Italy, there would be albums left to give. Can a whole civilization be wrong about an artist? Additionally, …
