GUEST BLOG: “Punk’s Dead, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. Killed It”

The following is a guest blog written by Blacklist Royals drummer Rob Rufus. He, alongside his bandmates, appeared in the role of a punk rock band on the ABC show Forever. Here is his first-hand account of the eye-opening experience:

The room was filled with punk rockers.

Punks clad in leather. Punks draped in plaid. Punks covered in chains and crossbones, torn fishnets and streaked eyeliner. A few of them idly twisted their hair, sharpening the points of their liberty spikes. One guy sat near the door alone, opening and closing a switchblade.

But mostly they just drank coffee, …

Puppy Share “The Great Beyond”

Puppy is a band that I am closely watching. After releasing their awesome video for “Forever,” the band has released “The Great Beyond,” a place exactly where the track comes from.

Blending indie rock, shoegaze, ’80s hair metal, rock, insane riffage, and more, “The Great Beyond” is another reason (along with “Forever”) to be excited about this band. With little information scattered online, the London-based (I think) rock band are letting themselves currently sit in mystery.

More importantly, the opening riff to “The Great Beyond” will knock your socks off. Followed by awesome melodies and harmonies, the track …

Puppy Release Nostalgic Video For “Forever”

I know very little about Puppy. I know that they just released a rad new track titled “Forever,” and an accompanying video with it. A video in which they do not appear, but old footage from rock festivals and concerts are plenty, as their grunge-pop tune is played over it.

With luscious textures giving rise to distorted riffage, the track is an interesting blend of grunge, pop, emo, indie, and just plain awesome. The Billy Howard Prince-directed video only helps in making the band’s nostalgic, yet infectiously creative track come full circle.

Wu Tang Clan Members Accused of Illegal Sampling

A report has surfaced that names Wu Tung Clan members Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man and RZA as defendants in a suit accusing them of illegal sampling. The accuser is Bridgeport Music and Westbound Records.

The track in question is “New Wu” from ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II, a Raekwon solo album released in 2009. It is accused of a 12-second or four measure cut “I’ve Changed” by the Magictones. The Raekwon track also features a verse by Ghostface and Method Man, while RZA produced it. This is why other Wu Tang members GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, …

STREAM/DOWNLOAD: Kanye West ft. Vega Choir – Forever West (Urban Noize Remix)

Urban Noize have returned to UTG with the incredible stream of “Forever West,” off of their upcoming Kanye West dedication, and this one goes hard.

The Florida duo incorporated Ye’s verse from from the Drake song “Forever” and brought together the Vega Choir performing their version of Radiohead’s classic “Creep.” Elements of rock and hip-hop on this joint really bring the depth of West’s verse through.
