The indie world has been buzzing about Blue Ruin since it first premiered at TIFF in the fall of 2013. The revenge thriller has been compared to the early work of the Coen Brothers, and looking at the latest trailer it’s not hard to understand why.

Throughout the history of the MPAA, any film given an NC-17 rating had pretty much received the mainstream “kiss of death.” The rating, which restricts entrance to a film to only those above the age of 17, turned away theater owners who rely heavily upon ticket sales from teens to keep the lights on.
