UTG PHOTOS: The Boys of Zummer Tour – Wiz Khalifa & Fall Out Boy (6/16/15)

Under The Gun Review sent photographer Kellie Gannon to Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH to shoot The Boys of Zummer Tour on June 16.

The Boys of Zummer tour rolled up at Blossom Music Center on a perfect summer evening. Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa teamed up with Chicago’s pop punk sweethearts, Fall Out Boy, to provide an unrivaled outdoor concert experience for thousands upon thousands of fans in attendance.

Wiz Khalifa kicked off his hour-plus-long set with the perfect summer tune, “Roll Up,” and immediately the crowded lawn beyond the amphitheater was overcome with a very obvious, smoky …

UTG INTERVIEW: Revision, Revised Talk ‘Dead Icons’ EP, Touring and More

When a band catches your ear in a wholly unique way, you can’t help but really focus on the nuances of the music, what the lyrics are about, or even find out whos in the band and what their duties are. Those were my goals when I first heard Ohio’s new post-metalcore outfit Revision, Revised. With their intricate and relentless guitar work, massive rhythm section, and deceiving lyrics, it was intriguing to hear a band of this caliber present a lot of poise, and in the right moment unleash their fury in the most brutal and impressive way.

The Sidekicks Running In The Nerved World

The Sidekicks Stream New Album, ‘Runners In The Nerved World’

Alternative punkers The Sidekicks have had an awe-inspiring couple of months, due largely in part to their signing with Epitaph Records back in November in order to release a follow-up to 2012’s Awkward Breeds. In signing with the ever-growing label, they will be releasing a new album called Runners In The Nerve World on January 20.

To further promote the release, the band teamed up with Stereogum to stream the album in its entirety. Don’t let the slow aspect of the album fool you, for there are numbers that certainly still have the fast punk rhythms reminiscent of their …

Dead Leaves

Dead Leaves Stream New Self-Titled EP

Dead Leaves, the reincarnate of Ohio pop-punk band Call It Fiction are just a few days away from releasing their second EP, or is it their first? According to vocalist Elliot Blair, the newest EP is the first true release for Dead Leaves. Their original EP, 2013’s Amend Regret, was billed as Dead Leaves, but written and recorded by what was then Call It Fiction. In a recent interview with Substream, Blair explains that the evolution of the band’s sound is what really separates the two releases- allowing the guys to call this latest release their debut.

UTG Video Premiere: Across the Viaduct – “Night Shift”

We have a slew of unsigned exclusives coming your way this week, and the latest offering comes to us from none other than Ohio pop punk outfit Across The Viaduct.

To be fair, Across The Viaduct are not pop punk in the same way, say, Man Overboard are pop punk. Their sound is certainly rooted in influences from the Warped Tour world of musicians, but there is a very defined indie presence in their music as well that helps add a level of sonic maturity to the whole affair. “Night Shift,” the band’s latest single, showcases all of this …

Ghost Stories/Armslength Split

Ghost Stories And Armslength Release New Split

Ohio based bands Ghost Stories and Armslength have released their new split for a name your price value on Bandcamp.

Both being indie based bands from the Ohio area, Ghost Stories and Armslength have joined together in tours, friendships, and now music. While they are both lesser known bands, I hope that with the release of this new split they can begin to be on everyone’s radars as they deserve to be.

Ghost Stories recently went through a singer change, though this alteration in line-up has had no effect on their ability to create vibrant songs. Channeling my favorite aspects …

If You Enjoy Pop Rock, Prepare To Fall In Love With Like London

There were a handful of months back in 2009/2010 when electronic-driven pop rock was all the rage in alternative music. Like mid-2000s metalcore and the ‘modern’ emo sound of 2001, however, there quickly grew to be far too many bands trying to hitch their careers to the genre bandwagon for anyone to get ahead. Countless bands copied each other’s sound and quickly made one another irrelevant, but the few that survived (Breathe Carolina, for instance) went on to have sustainable careers whose longevity was aided by the recent embrace of EDM by mainstream society.

In 2014, the scene is beginning …
