Right Away, Great Captain! to Re-release Vinyl Box Set in 2015

Die hard Manchester Orchestra fans get some good news today. The band’s frontman, Andy Hull, announced his solo project Right Away, Great Captain! will be re-releasing its four full-length LPs on vinyl for a brand new box set in 2015.

Hull posted the message on Twitter today, apparently in response to several fans asking over the years. “Merry Christmas!” he writes. “A lot of yall have been asking and the plan is to rerelease the RAGC vinyl box set in 2015. Now go cuddle a family member.”

The last we heard from Right Away, Great Captain!, the act had …

Manchester Orchestra Members Release Solo Tracks

As a part of the Fadeaway Records compilation, Fadeaway Records 10: Friends, members of the Atlanta-based band have released three solo tracks.

The three songs are performed by frontman Andy Hull, Robert McDowell and Chris Freeman. Hull’s “Back of Your Old Church” offers up a great representation of his comforting, breathy vocals reminiscent of his Right Away, Great Captain! days. McDowell, performing under the pseudonym “Gobotron,” brings the careful, edging “Walk Like A Dog,” beckoning thoughts of Simon and Garfunkel. Freeman, calling himself “Alaska” took the concept route with “A Teacher In The Sun,” taking the voice of a …

REVIEW: Bad Books – II

Artist: Bad Books
Album: II
Genre: Indie Rock/Pop
Label: Favorite Gentlemen

I’ve never been a man with little to say about the things that I am passionate about. Therefore, explaining to you exactly why Bad Books works in 750 words or less borders on being damn near impossible. Hell, if we’re being honest, I’d struggle to just fit my Kevin Devine gushing into that stipulation without tossing Manchester Orchestra into the mix. Their marriage of music manages to mold the finest aspects of two of the leading front runners to wear the title of indie-angst darling. Laced with an essential …

REVIEW: Right Away, Great Captain – The Church of the Good Thief

Artist:Right Away, Great Captain
Album: The Church of the Good Thief
Genre: Folk Rock, Indie
Label: Favorite Gentlemen Records

If you can listen to the first 60 seconds of The Church of the Good Thief, the third album in the Right Away, Great Captain trilogy without crediting Andy Hull with the title of poet your heart is hard and your mind is jaded. Creating more of a novel than an album, Hull’s concept for Right Away, Great Captain borders on the brilliance of Hemingway himself. His concept has Hull tell the story of a 17th century sailor who returns …
