Review: Adaliah – Broken Families

Artist: Adaliah Album: Broken Families Genre: Metalcore/Progressive Label: Rite of Passage/Mediaskare Records Last January Adaliah properly introduced themselves with their EP Rituals.  The EP gained the band much acclaim from its whirlwind combination of thrashing guitars and crashing drums. Now, a little over a year has passed and Adaliah have released their debut Broken Families. […]

Review: Eatmewhileimhot! – Mushroom

Artist: Eatmewhileimhot! Album: Mushroom Genre: Post-hardcore/Metal Label: Loveaway Christofer Drew is a busy guy, having  divided up his time between his three very musically distinct bands. The acoustic, indie-pop Never Shout Never, the experimental, psychedelics of GONZO and the brutal post-hardcore, metal outfit Eatmewhileimhot! Despite the fact that it originally started off as joke, just […]

Review: My Ticket Home – To Create a Cure

Artist: My Ticket Home Album: To Create a Cure Genre: Hardcore/Screamo Label: Rise Records For their first official release, My Ticket Home have constructed To Create a Cure. The album is an all to familiar blend of; guttural and clean vocals, an explosive rhythm section and thrashing guitars. However, despite the album’s feel of old-hat […]

Review: Belle Manoir – Century Tree EP

Artist: Belle Manoir Album: Century Tree EP Genre: Post-hardcore, screamo Label: Unsigned The Houston, TX sextet’s debut release Century Tree EP is a familiar cacophonic blend of bright buzzing guitars, alternated screamed and sung vocals, electronic flourishes scattered throughout as well as the “clatter-boom” of drums. However, all of this sonic ear candy not only […]

REVIEW: The Saddest Landscape – After The Lights

Artist: The Saddest Landscape Album: After The Lights Genre: Hardcore/Screamo Label: Top Shelf On first listen it’s clear why Boston’s The Saddest Landscape are part of the Topshelf Records roster, they have an abrasive post-hardcore sound that doesn’t hold back. It’s also no surprise that their past releases include split EP’s with Pianos Become The […]

REVIEW: Pianos Become The Teeth – The Lack Long After

Artist: Pianos Become The Teeth Album: The Lack Long After Genre: Rock/Screamo/Post-Rock Label: Topshelf Record With their previous release, Old Pride, Baltimore’s Pianos Become The Teeth created one of the best (but forgotten) records of 2010. Now as the band head into 2012, the follow-up, The Lack Long After doesn’t quite have the same zest and longevity […]

REVIEW: Vanna – And They Came Baring Bones

I’m honestly a bit unnerved by saying this, at the risk of being heckled and berated by angry Bostonians, but And They Came Baring Bones is, by a substantial margin, Vanna’s best offering to date, in any of their various line ups. And once fans hear this album, I doubt anybody will argue with that statement. Albums like The Search Party Never Came and even A New Hope had their iconic songs, but they didn’t feel nearly as complete or dynamically interesting as And They Came Baring Bones, they were lacking a bit of solidarity that is very much present in their new album.

REVIEW: Harbours – Remainders

“Overall there may be some little quality related nuances that mar the final product of this album, but I’m quite sure Harbours couldn’t care any less, in fact, they probably wear the imperfection proudly, like a scar; something to be proud of, they don’t need to be perfect, they don’t want to be. And I have to respect them for that.”

When Telle Attacks!

Illinois based, Christian hardcore band When Bears Attack! will be featuring The Word Alive’s lead vocalist, Tyler “Telle” Smith on their upcoming Elisha EP! I’m personally very excited for this. Check this band. They are a NEED TO KNOW for 2011.
